On March 11th, 2011 something unimaginable happened. A magnitude 9.0 earthquake, creating 40 meter waves, hit the northeast coast of Japan.
The following year, the Japanese government invited 23 students from Huntington, West Virginia to travel to Japan to cheer up the people who were affected by the disaster. Thanks to a generous grant from the Japan Foundation, a project called Kizuna (Bond) Project was created. The project gave us many opportunities to think, cry, feel, hug, experience and more, although sometimes we could not communicate very well. Certainly we created a very strong bond (kizuna) with people through these unforgettable experiences, and I am proud of all the students who participated actively as ambassadors of West Virginia to Japan. |
